Color is one of the most powerful ways to achieve consistency in—and improve recognition of—Northwestern publications. Northwestern’s official colors are Pantone 200 (red) and Pantone 437 (gray).

Northwestern’s word mark, logo and seal should be reproduced using these colors whenever possible. Avoid using screens or tints of either color. (Red appears as pink when screened, while the gray already has the effect of being screened.) The gray appearance of “College” in the word mark may also be achieved by printing it as a 40% screen of black. If it is impractical to use those colors, the word mark, logo and seal may also be reproduced in black, or in white as a reverse out of a dark-colored background or dark area of a photograph.
